too much of a good thing

isn't always a good thing.

Yesterday, my friend and I drove to the top of Independence Pass after seeing some of the pictures in The Aspen Times of all the snow that is still up there. Over 400% above average. The unfavorable spring weather has certainly left it's mark up there - as walls of snow.  It was a sight worth seeing. And now it has to melt. Yikes.

because it is fun

A few days ago I read this post from Susannah Conway about blogging and have been stewing over it. She mentioned her annoyance with all the "happy" blogs out there. Are they really authentic? She challenged bloggers to really be honest - to not be in denial of what is real by always painting the rosy picture of life through their posts.
I may be one of those bloggers that she is referring to, but I thought about it and realized that I am ok with that. I think that people blog for different reasons.
I rarely get too personal. I blog to creatively express myself through my photography and yes, I make a choice to focus on good and positive things. I do not blog to brag or distort my own reality into thinking it is better than it is. I am grateful that I am generally a happy person and I believe I do blog from the heart. I blog because it is fun.

After writing these last few sentences, I went back to Susannah's blog to link her post and found this follow up post. I was glad to see this and found it to be very wise. And Sylvia eloquently said just what I was thinking.

Thank you for reading my blog! I hope you like what you see and come back for more from time to time.

P.S.  I am really over this horrible spring weather right now and if it doesn't improve, I am going to go crazy! There, I shared something negative! ;)

i love the rain the most...

I am listening to Joe Purdy's song about the rain. A nice tune with great lyrics about loving the rain – the most – when it stops. Isn't that just so true.

In an effort to summon spring and stop all this nonsense of winter weather in the Roaring Fork Valley, I thought I would list out all my favorite things about this season that should already be upon us. I fear that once it really arrives, it won't stay very long before slipping right into summer, but next year maybe it can show up on time and stick around for a while.

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT SPRING:
longer days
warm days in April when we are still out playing in the snow - spring skiing is the best
early morning and evening light as it stretches out to caress everything in its path
tulips
blooms and blossoms
new buds on the trees
the brightest green in every direction
fragrant lilac bushes
the white peaked mountains in contrast with the green rolling hills below
children laughing and playing outdoors
birds chirping
food on the BBQ again
warm temperatures
breezes and SUNSHINE
and of course, the pitter-patter of the rain - especially when it stops.

More tulip love for your Sunday.

Which do you prefer? The tulips taken with my Canon 60D or these tulips taken with my Polaroid 680 and original Polaroid film?

snow and cherry blossoms

The polaroid camera didn't capture the big fluffy snowflakes falling around this cherry blossom tree this morning but it is pretty none the less. I am seriously over winter but still appreciate the beauty of snow, I guess. Hopefully this weather won't last and tomorrow I will wake up to sunshine and warmer temperatures - MUCH warmer temperatures.

He gets me.

video

My husband is traveling and sent me this video. Pelicans, my favorite birds, two of them flying along together in the afternoon light. We have a thing about birds in pairs. I love to be loved.

in my head

Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by you know how I feel

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree you know how I feel

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
That's what I mean

And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me

Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
