weekending

outdoors as much as possible
to breathe the fresh air
and take in the colors
in valleys
on mountain tops
running, hiking, walking
just out there
just in it
loving every minute of it
hoping it will last a bit longer

oh, aspen

I just can't get enough of the fall colors.
I just want to sit in an aspen grove
like I did today,
and watch the wind blow,
until every last one of the leaves has fallen.

changing

fall is here and the colors are brilliant.
better than i can ever remember.
the other day, we talked about the intense hail storm that happened when we were in minnesota,
as if it were THE event that marked a time for change.
such a massive storm that with its presence
not only seemed to change the seasons from summer to fall,
but so strong that it had the power to wash away all the crazy things that happened this summer
and leave a fresh, clean path ahead...
i welcome this thought, so i like seeing the change happening all around me.
hello fall - my favorite time of year.
you are so very stunning.

catch the updraft

yes, this is often times a photoblog ::: but not today.
only the image in my mind.
last sunday. it was an epic fall day. it was something like this.
my favorite time of year.
on one of my favorite hikes in the valley.
with one of my favorite people.
we were crossing a high mountain meadow
with aspen trees all around us ::: yet nowhere near us.
and we both saw it at the same time.
the golden glimmers in the air.
against the darkness of the valley below
against the brilliant blue sky
gold aspen leaves dancing on a breeze.
as if they had fallen from trees that were not there.
it must have been an updraft.
collecting leaves from the trees below, across the valley, from the left and right
and carrying them high
before letting them go
placing them in the sky above us.
yet the air was perfectly still.
we were in a snow globe of gold glitter.
time seemed to slow
and i knew this was one of those colorado moments to remember.
can't wait to get out there in the fall colors again this weekend.
happy friday.

time to soar

snowmass hot air balloon festival brought colorful skies and lots of smiles to town this weekend. quite a pretty sight.

"Well, here she was. And she could continue to exist in the darkness of her fear, or she could tend and coax the seed of hope inside her. And she chose hope. She took that step from safety and trusted she would soar." - Eleanor Brown - The Weird Sisters

trust the process

our last days of summer

mother nature's sweet embrace
the pine scent of the northwoods
sitting on the dock, jenny-dog's favorite spot
the waves lapping underneath
swinging in the hammock
yoga on the dock, inhaling the light breeze
gliding over the water on a stand-up paddle board
quiet hours spent in the canoe
bald eagles soaring overhead
dragon flies hovering by
writing with birch bark and hunting for pine cones
cooking over the open fire
lying on our backs in the dark - gazing, marveling, spying satellites and shooting stars
listening to the loons and the owl hoot in the night
watching the fog lift in the morning light
golden sunsets with a rosé in hand
coziness in the cabin
connectedness
so grateful to know such a place
